I adopted a rescue dog. His original owner and vet records state that he’s a min pin. His tail is docked. He’s about 10 inches tall and weighs 19 lbs. I swear he acts like a manchester terrier. He’s incredibly active, and loves the water and burrowing. He looks identical to a small doberman. Besides genetic testing, does any one know some key differences to distinguish the two breeds?
Mannies don’t have docked tails. If you look at pictures, you can see fine differences in the breeds but if you have a specimen not bred to the standard, it might be hard to tell the difference. There are subtle differences in the muzzle, the breadth of the body, and the ears. Min Pins ears will usually stand naturally whereas a Standard Mannies must usually be cropped to stand. 10 inches is the bottom of the standard for Minpins (10 1/2-12 1/2 at the shoulder, but the weight is right for that height. Min Pins tend to have a more solid body than Manchesters, which are supposed to be built more delicately (the max weight for a standard mannie is 22 lbs)
