Min Pin… How in the World Do You Get This Little Darling to Quit Barking So Much?

Our little Capri, a min pin 1 year old loves to run out the doggy door and just bark and bark. Sometimes i think she is getting better but other times she just keeps on. Please any help would be greatly appreciated. We live way out in the county in Ky so she has lots an lots of animals around like cows, deer, raccoons, possums. She is a great dog and loves me so much I don’t want to do anything to stop our relationship she loves to ride on my 4 wheeler!! LOL Just the barking sometime gets on my nerves!!

Thanks again
Yes she is a female!!! Black and tan

They’re definitely barkers. My younger Min Pin who is now 4 barked excessively. We tried giving him treats when he was good, etc…. nothing worked. The only thing that worked was using a collar that has a high pitched beep when he would bark… it also has the option to shock, but I rarely used it. I know people are against most training collars, but they work if used properly. He no longer barks like he used to, his personality didn’t change… he’s still hyper and wild, very outgoing and loving, but now he’s quiet.
EDIT – He DOES bark if he hears a noise outside, which I want him to do, but he stops when I tell him to now, before it was a 15 minute bark session with him running around the house franticly.

This is the one I used.

I have two Black and Tan males (they are 4 and 14), they are the two sweetest dogs I’ve ever met. I love their huge personalities, they’re such outgoing dogs and very bright. They like to get into trouble though, I always have to keep an eye on them.. haha.

My parents have a mini pin, Gypsy and she’s about 7…the only way I nkow how to get her to stop barking is by giving her a treat and saying Gypsy no. I think these type of dogs are just barkers….they’ll bark as they please pretty much.

Min Pin are yappy dogs, although you can correct it somewhat. If it’s standing outside barking, open the door real fast and throw a big cup of water at it. It will shock it and stop the barking for a little while. I use that method on my shih tzu when she’s standing in the yard just barking, I don’t live in the country.

I hate to say it, but Min Pins bark. That is their way. I don’t know how you can stop Capri from barking. Good luck!

Minpins, as adorable as they are, love to bark just to hear themselves bark, I think. I am in the process of training my chocolate pin, Cocoa, to stop the senseless barking. We have a doggie door as well. She starts by barking in the house, gets everyone all riled up, then runs outside and barks. I don’t believe in the treat training method for this, as pins are prone to obesity and diabetes, and the less treats, the better. What I have done is pruchased a few childrens squirt guns and placed them around the house for easy access. When she gets the urge to bark at something, I squirt her in the head and growl at her at the same time. This has been very effective, and her barking has cut down in half already.
I don’t think I will ever be able to make her a quiet dog, as minpins are such good watchdogs of the home, but she now understands when enough is enough.
Good luck with your pin and how cool that she likes to ride with you!
