What Type of Dog Food Do You Feed Your Min Pin? Does It Help With Shedding?

My min pin eats pedigree small bites but I bought purina small bites also and he has bad gas from that and sometimes throws up.. has anyone else’s min pin done this?
AGAIN- if u do ur research there are dog foods that help with shedding its just very costly and has been proved to work-

My Minpins have never done this. That is probably due to the fact that I would never even consider feeding them pedigree. Pins can suffer from dry skin and coat, and that stuff helps the condition get worse. He is probably throwing up because it is so hard to process that junk.

If you want a healthy Minpin, I suggest you find a better quality food. They eat so little that you could really move up in quality and still not spend much money!

When I get a dog into rescue I usually start with Blue Wilderness, to get their skin and coats back into good condition. After they look good and are the correct weight, I put them on the Blue Fish and Sweet Potato. I have one boy on a grain free diet and he looks awesome.

It is to be noted that Minpins can get what is called "stress dandruff". Little white snowy specks that they get when they are in stressful situations, like a vet visit. That does not have anything to do with their overall skin health.

ETA: St Lady has already noted that all dogs shed-there is no way to stop that from happening.

  • I’m kind of a big deal.

I feed mine Iams mini chunks in the green bag. Doesn’t help with shedding and he is a farter. Not really a puker though. He likes to be brushed so I do that to try and control shedding. My min pin will eat almost ANYTHING. Fruit, veggies and crap a dog normally wouldn’t eat. If yours is a pig like mine he might be eating something he’s not supposed to while you’re not looking causing him to vomit.

I feed all of my dogs Taste of The Wild and they do really good on it. It is also a very good dog food.

    Again………NOT BREED SPECIFIC.

& there’s absolutely nothing you can IN or ON a dog to stop shedding. Smooth coated dogs shed 24./7/365.

Have rescued many Minpins and currently have eight in the house. People constantly ask me what I put on my dogs to make them so shiny and I always tell them it is not what you put on, but what you put in!

    I agree with Anne B…

The "Blue" line of food is great!

One thing that happens with a lot of the pedigree-type brands is that the first ingredient is corn or chicken and most dogs become allergic to these ingredients because the proteins that they eat are never changed. If a dog eats chicken ALL the time he can become allergic to it. It’s best to feed one protein for a while, say, one bag worth, and then slowly switch it out with another protein. In other words, get a bag of that has chicken meat and then when you have about 1 week left start mixing in some fish & potato food and feed that for a while.

It may also help to give you dog an occasional bath with an oatmeal shampoo or some type of tea tree oil shampoo to help soothe his skin.
